save it for later

so i’m sorta opening for the English Beat tonight. not like i’m on the bill, but they’re playing after our weekly RIGHT ON Happy Hour at Mohawk. so while i’m really just spinning before their show (and after), we can just pretend i’m opening for them. (incidentally, using this pretend logic, i’ve also opened for Neon Indian. and Bun B. and the GZA.) it’ll be an amusing evening, running until 2am. Captain Jim wants me to bring some 80s music. so after our usual soul/funk vibe during happy hour, things could either get really entertaining or go horribly wrong in a pop 80s way. or both.

and then sunday night is Reggae Night at Club de Ville. Tony’s Jamaican Food will be serving up jerk chicken i really wish i could eat. every single week.

so that’s a half-full weekend. and i’m feeling good about tonight, even though i’m totally unprepared to play an 80s set later on. for serious, my 80s records are everywhere and unsorted. but sometimes chaos can’t be helped, and you’ve just got to roll with it and hope for the best.

formula one recap

my gigs from the past weekend each had intermittent surges of people and dancefloor ignition. but overall i don’t think the much touted “formula one weekend” had any effect on my nights, other than as a topic of conversation.

i have nothing to report, but i’m trying to get into the habit of doing post-game commentary on my dj excursions. sooo, yeah… formula one happened.

shoutout to the dancefloor starters, and to anyone who told me they liked what i was playing. those are always very much appreciated silver linings of positive reinforcement during long evenings.
